The unintended expat blogger behind Foundry Plain Sage

Hi, I'm Sofia
I’m a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Madrid, Spain.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Spain wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many relocations for work, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something bigger.
The first months were demanding — new procedures, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks felt more complicated than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of on-the-job learning. But gradually, routines settled in. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt solid.
Why I Built Foundry Plain Sage
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Spain.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Spain
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Spain goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
Sofia
